It is very large, but there are a lot of shops and places to grab a bite to eat. There is an underground tunnel between concourses B and C that is cool-looking.
But, with 8 hours, you may consider leaving the airport and going into the city. The Blue Line of the "el" goes from the airport to downtown. There is construction on the line, so it may take 60-75 minutes each way. Figure you should get back to the airport 90-120 minutes before your flight, and that will leave you with at least 4.5 hours to play downtown. Of course, if your layover is something like from midnight through 8am, this may not be the best idea. Changed @ Chicago many times.
