Why is it that President Bush has to sent Americans to countries that are thousands of miles away? Why doesn't American go to war to its FULLEST ABILITY? When America did that with Japan, it really shortened the war. Why doesn't America just "erase" those nations from the map? That would be so much cheaper.

""erase" those nations..." That's the rub. This is not a war against nations or governments. NGO's non governmental organizations.

We toppled the regimes, the governing; S Hussein in Iraq and Taliban in Afghanistan.

Now who do we bomb, erase? This is the challenge of insurgencies, guerilla wars, asymmetrical warfare; more like policing armed gangs in the hood than conquering the Axis.

The purpose of the surge was to establish security. Very similar to "neighborhood policing", establishing police, troop presence in a neighborhood, first clearing then holding.

Roadblocks in DC today being challenged by ACLU. Surge in Hartford, CT this week with State Police reinforcing local police to establish a sense of security. Both similar examples of high profile additional police presence to clear and hold and establish a sense of safety and security.

This Surge safety gives the neighbor hood citizens the confidence to support the Police against the gangs, gangsers, insurgents. Secure, citizens report criminals instead of hiding and feeding them or paying taxes, extortion, tribute.
