Question on being a police and moving.?

OK Say i was a cop in Chicago but now I'm planing on moving to another country, Hong Kong, now i still want to be a cop but would i have to wait 7 years for the citizenship before i can work as a cop over there or is there something else they do? Also say your a Sergeant or something higher then the basic would you have to go all the way back down to Police Constable (Lowest rank in hong kong police force)?

You would need to fulfill whatever application process they have. There is no such thing as transfering from Dept to Dept, much less country to country. Thats only on TV.

TV shows love to show someone who was a Dective or something is say LA and they "transfer" to NYC and suddnely are a detective from day one. Doesn't work that way.

For example, The Police Chief from Montgomery County Maryland, Chalres Moose, who was in charge when the beltway snipers where active, left Montgomery county and became a police Officer in Honolulu. He started from scratch and went through the academy and is now a regular patrol officer.

I know guys who where sgts and detectives in NYC and left for jobs out on LI and had to go through the whole academy and start as a rookie officer again.

And thats within the same state.

Becoming a Officer in another country would be extremely difficult. Not only would you have to most likely become a citizen, you would have to apply, get hired and complete training.

Also, isn't Hong Kong now part of China? That means its a communist nation. I highly doubt they are going to let some american citizen come in and work for them.
