Question about combat in Iraq?

This questionll prolly strike a chord with some people especially Iraq vets. Let me make clear, the closest I have ever been to combat is a couple fist fights in white suburbia so its safe to say I do not know **** about it. I am a contracted cadet in ROTC and will be commissioning in a few years. While I do not support the decision to invade Iraq like many Americans, I do believe that we have no choice but to stay there till we finish the job. Anything short of that will be a failed entry. I believe we need to target radicals and fundamentalists who commit political crimes in the name of a religion and al qaeda must be eliminated. However, I cant help but see the war from the view of an average Iraqi. I think to myself that if America got invaded in the name of being "liberated" and there were foreign soldiers in my backyard. I would grab a couple guns myself and start blowing heads off. What if a man you killed was simply fighting because maybe an American bomb killed his fam.

The first thing you need to know is that the majority of insurgents in Iraq, are not Iraqis. They are from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Turkey, Iran, etc.

I have absolutely no remorse for anyone I killed while there. I defended myself and my squad members. When it comes down to situations like that, it is kill or be killed... and I was determined to come home and for the people in my squad to be on that field during the welcome home ceremony with me.

You also need to realize that the majority of what you hear from the media ... is a lie. You will never know the whole truth until you experience the war first hand. We have established schools, businesses, police departments, government, neighborhoods, etc. We have taken back the hospitals that were once overrun by insurgents. We have given life saving medical treatment to those in need (yes, even those that were trying to kill us) We have given food, clean water, and medicines to Iraqi children. We have inflated their economy to the point where families are finally able to afford cooling systems for their homes.

Sure, someone probably picked up a weapon after his family was killed... but any time bombs were dropped the citizens of that city were given ample time to leave before hand.

You also need to understand that no matter what the person's reason is....once they aim a weapon at US Forces, they are considered the enemy. There are no ifs ands or buts about it... they are the enemy and there for must be eliminated to ensure the safety of the civilians and the military personnel.

Until you are willing to pull that trigger without hesitation..please do not join the military. Hesitation is what gets our fellow troops killed. Disabled Combat Vet, Army Wife 50% 2 Votes
