Do you have any basic advice?(spelling)

Positive reenforcement works wonders with chihuahuas. Yelling, smacking, rubbing noses in poo, thumping, and spraying will only get you a scared and distrustful chihuahua. A good scolding goes far with this tempermental breed.

Realize that some are quite stubborn, and yours might be as well, don't the little cutey with the big, sad eyes take over. They push as far as you let them. Having said that, stand your ground on the important matters, behavior, eatting habits and housebreaking, but feel free to give alittle in other matters. No need to be a pushover, they will take advantage, but alittle patience goes along ways with the chihuahua.

Make sure you buy the same food as what the breeder is feeding. If you want to switch foods later, that's fine, but not when you first bring him home. Moving to a new home is stressful enough, without a different food to upset your belly. When and if you do switch foods, do it gradually and slowly over a period of time by mixing the new in with the old, until it's eventualy all the new stuff, and not the old.

Lastly, make sure you get your chi from a good breeder, socialization is very important, but if the traits for friendliness and an outgoing personality aren't there to begin with, how can you enhance them? Meet the parents. If the pup's parents are friendly, you have a better chance of getting a pup with a good disposition. And lastly, pick the pup that picks you, that may not necessarily be the cutest one, but in the long run, you'll both be happier.

Edit: Congrats! It's a girl! Again, be patient, not only is she chihuahua, but she's full grown, and who knows what she's been through. I have 2 of the little darlings.
