How can you tell if your puppies have fleas?

Well my dog had two puppies about 2 weeks ago and they are both white. They have very small amount of fur so I can see very clear. One time when I was petting them I saw a little black spot and I felt it and it was not a spot and it did not look much like a bug. It felt like it was sticking on it and tried to pull it off but I could not. Yesterday when I was holding it I noticed it was gone. Could it be a flea?

Look into the fur, on the skin......you will see small black spots that resemble small poppy seeds. That is flea dirt. If your puppy has this, they have fleas. Generally, if the puppies are nursing, that will help keep them from having fleas...during that time. However, it does not "omit" that they could have them. Check their mother to see if she has fleas. I hope she doesn't. Nursing and fleas won't make mommy that comfortable.

If your dog/puppies are white it is very easy to detect. If you take a piece of tissue and lay a bit of the black pieces on it, press down with the back of your nail or toothpick, or other.... then, if it smears as a dark red.....that is FLEA DIRT. Flea dust is the dried blood the fleas expel, which comes from your dog/puppy. Mommy to my past goldies, and now my present golden retriever, Pilot 35% 25 Votes
