United Nations will ban religion?

Has anyone among you heard about this? Is this a real fact or a rumor? When was this first published.
thank you for the time

It's a total rumor, typical of right-wing conspiracy theorists. The UN's actual stance on religion can be found in Section 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, passed by the UN General Assembly in 1948:

"Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance."

A moment's thought should make it obvious that the UN would never pass a resolution banning religion: most of its members either guarantee freedom of religion or impose a particular religion on its citizens; countries in either of these categories are extremely unlikely to support a proposal banning religion.

Besides, given how ineffective the UN generally is, how on earth would they enforce such a ban even if it did somehow pass? 60% 3 Votes
