Is this worth getting my hopes up...?

A few months ago I met a guy who was an immigrant here. We really connected and as stupid as this sounds it felt like I was falling in love with him. He was the guy I've always dreamed of. Because of him now I know what the quote "You never know what you have until it's gone" means. 21 days ago he left without saying goodbye. The day before he left we were supposed to meet up to say bye but he never called. Since that day all I've done is cried. The people who he lived with told my mom's friend that he left because he didn't like it here and because his dad was sick. Well lastnight my mom told me she saw a guy who looked EXACTLY like him jogging by my house, she said as he jogged by he kept looking inside my house A LOT. She said she even called up her friend to ask if she had heard anything about him coming back but her friend didn't answer. Anyway I kind of got my hopes up thinking it might be him because he would jog every night around the time that my mom said she saw the guy passing by. If he did come back then he would've called me but my cell is disconnected because my bro didn't pay it, so if he called me I have no way of knowing. You're probably thinking if it was him then he would've knocked, but he would NEVER knock because he's afraid my dad or bro are going to be home. Well anyway my question is should I even bother getting my hopes up? What do I do to figure out if it was him?

You didn't mention your age, but it sounds a bit like you're young and he's older. If this is the case, give up for a few years. If he really likes you he'll be back when you are older. It is possible that somebody found out about your relationship and scared him out of it.

If you're about the same age, I would consider his leaving for 21 days a rather bad sign. He better have a damned good explanation, and frankly I can't think of one. If he went back to take care of his sick father - they have internet cafes all over the world - he could have written you something. If he has your cell number he should have called.

Something's rotten in Denmark.

I'd say to try to get over him and find another. Whether he is around your house or not he left you without a trace for 21 days, and that just isn't good.
