Buy a super fresh unsliced loaf of french bread from a bakery. Pick up one or two great cheeses (sliced) and a thinly sliced cold meat. Just cut slices of bread as you eat them. Some fresh cut-up vegies w/ a veggie dip. Strawberries (to feed each other). Surprise him with homemade cupcakes-- check out the little stick on candies that you can buy to put on cakes in the baking aisle. Add a birthday candle. (you can get a cake mix and a frosting mix pretty cheap). He'll be touched that you made them yourself. Have his favorite beverage. Get ahold of a couple wine glasses and a small tablecloth.
