I looked at the first page and assume all the local links work... generally I think it's got some nice things happening, but I could suggest improvements.

The sepia effect and textures work fine, but it gets too busy with the see-through thumbtacks. I know it's fun and all, but you don't need them. The page is too crowded, and the slideshow of portraits changes too quickly.

All the add-ons are also fun but lead to my first question when putting together a website: what is it for?

In this case, it's for showcasing your wife's artwork. A portfolio site (with business interactivity, which you are clearly on top of:) needs to look beautiful on the first page and lead the visitor on to the gallery. That's where the slideshow can go, though I think it's better to use thumbnails that enlarge when clicked. This way your visitors can take as much time as they want for each image.

The map, the traffic counter etc. are definitely last-page stuff.

I'm sorry I don't really have time to check out the full navigation, but you're clearly competent. I just want to make the point that first impressions count, and your wife's artwork deserves a classy presentation.

She's lucky to have you to do this for her!
